ESSK 047: Mt. Kenya climb

6 Days Sirimon - Chogoria Route

Day 1: Nairobi - Nanyuki
Depart Nairobi in the morning accompanied by your mountain guide driving through the beautiful Kikuyu land in central Kenya and arriving Nanyuki in time for lunch. Afternoon walk to the equator for acclimatization. Dinner and overnight in a budget hotel.

Day 2: Nanyuki - Old Moses Camp
After breakfast drive to Sirimon gate (2550 meters) and after a quick check- in, start the hike through the rain forest for nine (9 kms. ) to Old Moses camp (3300m ) for dinner and overnight.
Approximate walking time 4hrs.

Day 3: Old Moses - Shipton Camp
After breakfast hike through the moorland heading to Liiki Valley then down to Mackinders Valley with picnic lunch en-route arriving Shipton camp (4500m ) in the late afternoon . Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Approx walking time 6/7 hrs for 14kms.

Day 4: Shipton Camp - Acclimatization
Your day of acclimatization. Hike around Shipton peaks (4500m) near the Batian base returning in good time for lunch. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 5: Point Lenana - Chogoria
Early morning departure (0300hrs) for a 3hrs walk to the summit (Point Lenana at 4985m)
arriving approx 0630hrs. Enjoy the scenery with the sun rise and after taking your photos descend to Mintos Hut for full breakfast. Then further descent through the beautiful gorges and Lake Elies at a far distance. Proceed to Chogoria Banda (Mt. Kenya Lodge 2900m) for dinner and overnight.
Approx walking time 12hrs.

Day 6: Chogoria - Back to Nairobi
After breakfast set on a morning walk for 15 kilometers to meet the 4wd vehicle which will take you to Chogoria where you will have your lunch, then you will get transport back to Nairobi.

- Transportation from and back to Nairobi in a shared taxi
- I night fullboard accommodation in Nanyuki
