ESS'S CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROGRAM
(Also promoting Philanthropic Travel)
Having been well established
in the tourism industry for over a decade, Eastern & Southern Safaris
has recently developed a CSR Program whose objective is to give back to
communities that have over the years supported the industry through various
efforts geared towards development, conservation and sustaining the destinations.
We plan to do so by supporting specific community initiatives that involve
the participation of the locals resulting in self sufficiency and improved
standards of living.
Our
pilot area is in Kenya’s South Rift Region, the corridor that connects
Amboseli National Park with the world famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
In this endeavor, Eastern & Southern
Safaris is proud to partner with
African Conservation Centre (ACC) and South
Rift Association of Land owners (SORALO) whose well defined initiative
is the driving force behind the development of community efforts that
are enhanced to creating their own "parks beyond parks".
Currently, there are several
innovative community based programs initiated by ACC and SORALO that contribute
to sustainable development and conservation programs, in the areas of
Education, Water and sanitation, Environmental projects, Community service
and Promotion of Green Energy.
Our choice of the The South
Rift Region is no coincidence. The region is incredibly rich in culture,
wildlife, ecology and is endowed with breathtaking landscapes and offers
an attractive and newly developed tourist product. Part of our responsibility is to encourage our clients to include a visit of the region in their safari itineraries, and have carefully developed Safari Packages that combine wildlife safaris with activity-packed wilderness and
cultural experiences that will offer the traveller a humbling experience. Bearing
in mind that philanthropic travel is a growing worldwide movement that
currently defines responsible travel, we are encouraging our visitors
to not only enjoy their travel but also give back to these destinations
that are biodiversity and culturally rich but economically challenged.
HOW
THE PROGRAM WORKS
1. ESS CSR program
The Directors of Eastern & Southern Safaris have undertaken to supporting
specific projects every year in partnership and consultation with the
developments partners in the region - both ACC and SORALO. This will be
in the form of monetary as well as techinical support, depending on the
project needs.
Prior to developing our CSR program for
the South Rift Region, ESS has been supporting 2 children's homes in Mazera's
Area (Jiipe Moyo Children's Home) and PBB Childrens Home in Mai Mahiu
Area. We continue to encourage our clients on Safari to stop by any of
the 2 homes to give support of any kind.
2. Clients/Friends Direct Contributions
This is where we invite you, the traveler to join us in becoming an active
and willing partner in our innovative community based programs that contribute
to sustainable development and conservation programs. Remember, these
projects aim at helping to support and empower the local and indigenous
communities by providing jobs, training/skills, and lasting improvements
in health care, education, as well as environmental conservation stewardship
to ensure that your destination is at its best. We are open to your suggested
ways of participation and will be delighted to hear from you. We value
every form of contribution as this takes us a step forward in furthering
our course.
3. Time Contribution
By way of Volunteer Programs that involve provision of technical/specialized
skills in an area of your interest e.g education, health & nutrition,
conservation, project development, management, construction, research,
agriculture, enterprise development etc. These projects can be organized as short or long term engagements and
we help identify and connect you to the project of your choice.
